The international workshop on "Common Management Standards for Disability Support Specialists" will take place in Antakya, Hatay, Turkey between 21st-23rd November 2009, and will be followed on 24th November by the TIU Final Dissemination Activity.

 

Participants from over ten countries are invited to take part in discussing the role and responsibilities of disability advisors and coordinators and the function of a Disability Unit (DU) within a university:

  • What are DUs doing, what could they be doing?
  • Who are they serving, who could they be serving?
  • How are they operating, what do they need to operate more effectively?
  • Why do DUs need standards?   What principles should such standards be based on?
  • What principles are important?
  • What criteria can be used to identify standards?
  • How to implement standards?
  • What should a trained DU coordinator value, understand, know and do?
  • Where should a DU be within the university hierarchy? 
  • How should it be connected to best fulfil its responsibilities?

 Workshop participants will discuss the above points according to the programme:
