Workshop: Enrolment of new students with disabilities

Instructions:

1.      Form subgroups each consisting of 4 persons.

2.      Read the distributed case concerning a student with a disability.

3.      Answer individually the following 4 questions:

1)      What primary response does the information given by the case description call up if you relate this information to the study?

2)      How do you explain this response?

3)      Which associations occur in your mind in the second instance and what do they mean for the desired study of the student, according to you?

4)      Which problems do you see thinking about the used combination of the study and the described disability(ies)? (try to think about all persons and services who may be concerned: teachers using specific teaching forms and methods, practical work, work placement outside the institute, and also the willingness of supporting services like timetable makers, technical personnel, caretakers, canteen etc.)

4.      Talk together about possible answers on the next 3 questions, formulate a group answer and write the answers in keywords down on a flip over sheet.

1)      Which provisions / adaptations / adjustments are necessary in order to make this study for this student feasible? (a strategy for solutions)

2)      Which procedures do you have to follow in order to realise those provisions / adaptations / adjustments and who are the persons to address (to be involved)? (procedures and responsibilities)

3)      What has to be done to control the whole process? (to increase the chance of success)
