Preparation for empowering students Print E-mail

By Evelien Westerbeek

Given end of Day 3, to prepare for Day 4

These first three days of this training you (Disability coordinators) have been working in different settings and practicing different methods. For tomorrow we ask you to prepare how you would practice empowering your students. These are the subjects during the day and the things we would like to see you practicing.

Program

  1. Explore the problems your students encounter:
Think about what method you would use to get to know these problems. How do you get your students to talk about them?

  1. Approach of the students:
What do they prefer and why? Are there cultural aspects to be considered? What do the students think about this?

  1. Empowerment:
Individual and group empowerment. You may have heard about good practices or examples of activities and role models. Discuss with your students what you and your students could do and want to do in your universities. You could brainstorm about activities with your students.

  1. Actions
What actions should be organized? What is the first priority? What will the students want to do themselves? How can you be of service for them to take action?
Choose actions to work out during next year and make plans to do so.
